La Trobe Art Institute have welcomed Dr Karen Annett to the role of Director. Karen has held numerous roles at La Trobe Art Institute and La Trobe University, including Assistant Director, Public Programs Coordinator, sessional lecturer, post-gradudate supervisor and ITAS tutor. Karen has been key in leading partnerships across the community and cultural sectors, establishing our residency program, and nurturing relationship with key stakeholders in the University and beyond. She holds a PhD from La Trobe University and is also a practicing artist which strongly informs her inclusive approach to learning through visual arts.
Karen proceeds Director Bala Starr. Among many other achievements, Bala delivered our Arts and Culture strategy that we will carry forward and curated the hugely successful exhibitions, 'Collecting debt and other bad moods' at La Trobe Art Insitute, and ‘In our time: The Geoff Raby Collection of Chinese Art’ at Bendigo Art Gallery and the National Art School.
The Public Galleries Association of Victoria (PGAV) acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the lands where our office is located, and all Traditional Owners of country throughout Victoria and Australia. We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples enduring traditions and continuing creative cultures. We pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
