The Art Gallery of NSW's Sydney Modern expansion is being given the go ahead by the state government via a $244 million funding injection for the project. The plan will see the gallery double its floor space, with construction starting by 2019 and completed in time for its 150th anniversary and 100th anniversary of the Archibald Prize in 2021. In addition to the government funding, the gallery will raise $100 million from private donors to fully fund the project. $70 million has already been pledged and the balance of $30 million is said to be raised through fundraising over the next few months. "The Sydney Modern Project will turn our 19th Century Gallery into a global museum of the future" Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said. Further details here
