HUME Whirling Waters by Nur-Terzi

Whirling Waters

12 Apr 2025 – 5 Oct 2025

Artist: Nur Terzi

Whirling Waters by Nur Terzi showcases the dynamic beauty of Turkish Ebru marbling, illumination, and calligraphy. This exhibition explores movement- both physical and spiritual- through fluid wave-like patterns that reflect the rhythms of nature and the universe. Inspired by Sufi philosophy, Nur’s work reinterprets traditional Ebru in a contemporary context, using deep greens, rich purples and golds to evoke mystery and transformation. At its heart, Whirling Waters celebrates continuous motion, from the whirling dervishes to the endless flow of water. Through this fusion of tradition and innovation, Nur invites viewers to experience the harmony of movement and artistic expression.

About the artist
Nur Terzi is a Turkish-Australian artist specializing in Ebru marbling, illumination, and calligraphy. With a deep appreciation for traditional Turkish-Islamic art, she brings a contemporary perspective to these ancient techniques. Influenced by Sufi philosophy and the fluidity of nature, her work explores movement, transformation, and the harmony between chaos and order. Nur’s practice is a dialogue with water, embracing its unpredictability to create intricate, flowing patterns. Based in Hume, she has exhibited her work in various cultural and artistic spaces, sharing the timeless beauty of Ebru with new audiences while keeping its rich heritage alive in a modern context.
