WAMA Art Prize 2025 9

WAMA is a privately funded community led initiative set on a 16-hectare site in Halls Gap/ Budja Budja, the heart of Djab Wurrung and Jardwadjali lands. The precinct encompasses the National Centre for Environmental Art, the Grampians/Gariwerd Endemic Botanic Garden, the Jallukar Native Grasslands, ephemeral wetlands, and outdoor artworks.

Getting to the Gallery

For full details visit: https://wama.au/visit/

Driving from Melbourne, WAMA is about 3 hours via the National/Western Highway (M8) West toward Ballarat.

Driving from Adelaide, WAMA is about 5 and a half hours via the National Highway (M1/A1) to the Western Highway (A8) through Bordertown and Horsham before turning off onto Halls Gap Road.

Enjoy the scenic drive through classic grain and grazing country before the mountains rise suddenly ahead. It’s a good idea to stop for fuel or food in Ballarat or Horsham, the last major towns before Halls Gap.

WAMA’s driving time to nearby towns:

  • 7 mins from Halls Gap town centre
  • 8 mins from Pomonal
  • 45 mins from Ararat
  • 50 mins from Horsham
  • 60 mins from Dunkeld
  • 90 mins from Ballarat

Plan a road trip and make the most of the region: explore trails, be awestruck by ancient rock art sites, visit a winery, and end the day by staying in this ancient land.
