The Torch is a First Peoples-led not-for-profit based in Carlton, Victoria. We support a First Peoples community of artists to break the cycle of incarceration by reclaiming and maintaining cultural connection and knowledge through art practice. Individual healing and self-determination is fostered by nurturing empowerment, economic elevation and a sense of purpose.

We support First Peoples artists with lived experience of incarceration to reconnect with culture and earn income from art sales (with 100% of the artwork price going directly to the artist), licensing, Cultural Activations, and exhibitions including our major annual exhibitions Confined and Future Dreaming.

Collection

All artworks at The Torch are available for purchase from The Torch Gallery in Carlton and online: https://thetorch.org.au/shop-2/

We do not take a commission, which means 100% of the artwork price goes directly to the artist.

accessibility

The Torch is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive space that is welcoming to all. Our gallery and offices are housed in a heritage building, and while this presents some accessibility challenges, we are actively working towards making the space as accessible as possible. If you have specific access needs or require assistance during your visit, please contact us at 03 9042 1236 or info@thetorch.org.au.

Our main entrance has three steps with a handrail, and another small step to enter the building. There is a doorbell that needs to be pressed to gain entry by a staff member.

Alternatively, you can enter The Torch via a wide path on the left-hand side of the building accessed through a gate. This gate leads to a covered tiled porch which has one step. There is another step to enter the building from the porch. There is an intercom for visitors to enter this way.

The gallery areas are spacious, light filled, and easy to move around in.
There is an all-gender ambulant toilet on the ground floor.
