PGAV is thrilled to invite you to the official launch of our new advocacy project Public Galleries: Our Creative Heart at Parliament House, Melbourne, on 7 March 2023.
Across Victoria, public galleries manage collections valued at $4.4 billion, deliver more than 4000 programs each year, provide vital art therapy for disaster victims, train the next generation of gallery curators, drive regional and suburban tourism, and support the careers of creatives.
But we know that many of our gallery buildings, staff, and collections are at risk.
This is our chance to share the story of Victorian public galleries with the Government and other Members of Parliament and launch a new vision for our future.
Public Galleries: Our Creative Heart Launch
6pm – 8pm (formal proceedings from 6.45pm)
Tuesday, 7 March 2023
Federation Room, Parliament House, Melbourne
Join colleagues from around the state as we showcase the value of Victoria's public galleries with Jason Smith, Director & CEO at Geelong Gallery as Master of Ceremonies, and speakers Katie Hall MP, PGAV President & Director of the Art Gallery of Ballarat Louise Tegart, and artist Susan Cohn. The event will include a virtual reality experience developed by Wangaratta Art Gallery with the Bpangerang community for fire affected communities across north-east Victoria.
We will also be joined by video essayist Mary McGillivray – known to hundreds of thousands of people as _theiconoclass – and will do vox pops with those attending.
The Public Galleries Association of Victoria (PGAV) acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the lands where our office is located, and all Traditional Owners of country throughout Victoria and Australia. We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples enduring traditions and continuing creative cultures. We pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
We are an LGBTQIA+ friendly organisation that celebrates diversity. We are committed to providing safe, culturally appropriate, and inclusive services for all people, regardless of their ethnicity, faith, disability, sexuality, or gender identity.
