EXHIBITION BURRINJA Pieces of paper

Pieces of Paper

9 May 2026 – 21 Jun 2026

This spectacular showcase features 2D and 3D assemblages that push the boundaries of what you thought possible with a simple sheet of paper.

Whether you are a lifelong art enthusiast or simply looking for an inspiring weekend activity, this exhibition offers a unique look at how artists manipulate an everyday material into extraordinary creations.

A Rich History Meets Modern Innovation
Paper has a long, rich history that dates back to the use of papyrus in ancient Greece and to early paper-making processes in China around 200 BCE. While modern times have industrialised paper production, the artists in this exhibition are actively rediscovering traditional methods.

You will see firsthand how creators are reviving ancient practices through new, ecological approaches and surprising, sustainable materials.

Transformative Techniques
From the whimsical to the highly scientific, Pieces of Paper presents works made through an incredible variety of methods. The artists transform standard materials using a wide range of techniques, including:

- Folding and weaving
- Welding and tearing
- Intricate cutting and collage
- Pulp making and bookbinding

Diverse Voices from Across the Country
We are proud to host an incredible lineup of talented creators. Pieces of Paper highlights geographical diversity, featuring six artists from the Dandenong and Yarra Ranges, alongside visionary talents from Tasmania, New South Wales, and the Northern Territory.
