PGAV Submission - GROWING THE INDIGENOUS VISUAL ARTS INDUSTRY

Friday February 12th, 2021

The PGAV met with our members in January to prepare a submission to the Australian Government's Growing the Indigenous Visual Arts Industry consultation. Feedback to the consultation will inform the development of a National Indigenous Visual Arts Action Plan and guide future government support. Our submission includes 7 recommendations for inclusion in the Action Plan, including sustainable employment of First Nations arts workers at public galleries; increasing opportunities for First Nations visual artists; and the digitisation and conservation of First Nations cultural materials in public gallery collections

The Public Galleries Association of Victoria (PGAV) acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the lands where our office is located, and all Traditional Owners of country throughout Victoria and Australia. We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s enduring traditions and continuing creative cultures. We pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
