Hamilton Gallery has been the heart of visual arts in the Southern Grampians for over 60 years. 

Their internationally significant collection was seeded by a generous bequest of 981 objects, now numbering over 9000 with unique strengths in Decorative Arts, European, Australian and Asian Art. 

Free to visit and open 7 days, visitors can discover touring exhibitions, curated highlights from the permanent collection and engaging public programs and events. Alongside regular opportunities for all ages to create and learn, the HG gallery shop also stocks unique products by local and national artisans. 

Permanent Collection

The gallery’s internationally significant collection was seeded by the generous Shaw bequest of 781 objects in 1958 and has grown to include over 9000 objects encompassing a multitude of mediums, time periods, traditions and cultures. The collection’s unique strengths are most notable within the Decorative Arts, European, Australian and Asian Art collection areas, including a rare collection of 18th Century gouache and watercolour landscapes by Paul Sandby.

By car
Hamilton is 295 kilometers west of Melbourne and is an easy 3.5-hour drive. Some of the major road networks servicing Hamilton include;B140 - Hamilton Highway (Provides connections to Mortlake & Geelong)B160 – Glenelg Highway (Provides connections to Ballarat, Mt Gambier and Casterton)A200 – Henty Highway (Provides connections to Portland and Horsham)C184 – Hamilton Port Fairy Road (Provides connections to Port Fairy & Macarthur)

By train and bus
V-line buses run from the Southern Cross Train Station in Melbourne to Hamilton. The Hamilton V-line coach stop is located at the Hamilton Railway Station. For travel information and an up to date timetable, please visit http://www.vline.com.au or phone 1800 800 007.Note – There is no passenger train service direct to Hamilton.

Town Bus Service
The Hamilton town bus service operates 6 days per week Monday to Saturday, except on Public Holidays.Tickets are purchased from the driver on the bus, on the day. This service runs every one and a half hours at each stop. Local bus timetables are available from www.trotterscoaches.com.au

Taxis
Taxis operate a regular service throughout Greater Hamilton. Taxis can be booked by calling (03) 5571 1200.

Mobility Access: Step-free access from street level throughout first floor and wheelchair access to the first floor gallery via ground floor lift. A wheelchair is available and can be reserved for you upon request.
