Benalla Art Gallery is part of Creative Victoria’s Regional Digitisation Roadshow, a pilot program which will see three regional gallery collections digitised between April and July 2019. To extend the learnings from this pilot, PGAV Members are invited to attend this one-day professional development event and gain insights into digitising collections.
Creative Victoria will provide an overview of the Regional Digitisation Roadshow. Benalla Art Gallery will be trialling a large format scanner, the wideTEK Art 36 – designed specifically for scanning fine art. While the NGV’s Conservation team will provide practical advice on condition reporting and cataloguing collection items as part of the digitisation process. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the latest technology and best practice approaches to digitising visual art collections.
SCHEDULE
8:30am: Bus departs from NGV Australia, Federation Square (Russell Street)
10:45am: Arrive Benalla Art Gallery – tea and coffee in the café.
11am: Welcome from PGAV
11:05am: Julie Cotter, Senior Program Manager/Victorian Cultural Collections, Creative Victoria will provide an overview of the Regional Digitisation Roadshow
11:20pm: Bryony Nainby, Director, Benalla Art Gallery will provide an interactive tour, demonstrating their approach to digitisation
12:30pm: Lunch in the Café
1:15pm: Michael Varcoe-Cox, Head of Conservation NGV will discuss conservation, condition reporting and cataloguing for large scale digitisation
2:15pm: Free time to explore the digitisation process at Benalla Art Gallery and speak with the staff involved. Docuvan will also be available to answer questions about the large format scanner.
3pm: Bus departs Benalla
5:15pm: Bus arrives NGV Australia, Federation Square
