Brett Whiteley: Inside the Studio

28 Jun 2025 – 5 Oct 2025

Drawn from the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Brett Whiteley Studio, Brett Whiteley: Inside the Studio presents a selection of Whiteley’s works across various media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, collage and ceramics.

Featuring iconic paintings and early abstractions alongside rarely seen archival photographs depicting Whiteley at work (and sometimes at play) in studios across London, New York and Sydney, Inside the Studio offers a glimpse into Whiteley’s creative world and considers the role of his studio spaces in the scale and context of his works and as an extension of his artistic identity.

SAM's presentation of Brett Whiteley: Inside the Studio is a Victorian exclusive, and marks the end of the exhibition's national tour.

Please note: This exhibition contains adult themes and depictions of artistic nudity. Parental supervision is recommended if visiting with young children.

Brett Whiteley: Inside the Studio will be a free, ticketed exhibition.

Tickets for the first four weeks of Brett Whiteley: Inside the Studio are now available for booking. After July, tickets will be released in fortnightly stages.
