Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and community members are invited to take part in Artists in the Black at SAM & Kaiela Arts. This two-day workshop is free and will provide you with insights on what goes on behind the scenes at SAM, as well as important legal issues affecting artists with Arts Law Centre of Australia and the Artists in the Black team.
DAY ONE: take part in a Behind the Scenes tour of SAM, led by Belinda Briggs. Meet the people who work at SAM, learn about what they do, what they love about their work and the career pathways they took to get there. This is also an opportunity to learn about SAM’s collection and what is involved in caring for the artworks in the collection, as well as a tour of the gallery and workshop spaces at SAM.
DAY TWO: join Robyn Ayers, Arts Law CEO, Roxanne Lorenz, Arts Law Solicitor and Bibi Barba, Artists in the Black Coordinator, at Kaiela Arts for a run through of the important legal issues affecting artists: copyright, contracts, licencing, commissioning of artworks and Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP).
Legal Advice Clinics
Arts Law staff will also provide free Legal Advice Clinics for artists from 1pm - 4pm. This is your change to ask a question about your individual legal concern. Make the most of this opportunity to gain a better understanding of the legal issues affecting your arts practice.
