Merri-bek City Council cares for a vibrant and diverse art collection on behalf of the Merri-bek community. The Merri-bek Art Collection aims to generate discussion about art, culture, social and environmental issues.

The collection has developed through purchases, donations and commissions.

Explore the Merri-bek Art Collection

Artworks are displayed in Council building foyers and meeting rooms, libraries and in exhibitions at the Counihan Gallery.

The Merri-bek Art Collection is now also available to explore online on the Victorian Collections website.

Merri-bek Art Collection Policy

The Merri-bek Art Collection is growing steadily through the implementation of the Merri-bek Art Collection Policy. This policy is currently under review.

Donating artwork to the Merri-bek Art Collection

Merri-bek City Council is grateful for the generosity of donors.

If you have an artwork that you think belongs in the Merri-bek Art Collection, please email CounihanGallery@Merri-bek.vic.gov.au 

All donations must satisfy the criteria outlined in the Merri-bek Art Collection Policy and are reviewed by the Merri-bek Arts Advisory Committee.

To help us understand whether the work is a right fit for the Merri-bek Art Collection, please include the below information. Comprehensive information will enable us to respond as quickly as possible.

• Artist's Name
• Title of work
• Medium / Materials
• Date of work
• Size (Width x Height x Depth, in centimeters)
• Provenance (How did you come to own the work? Do you know the history of the work prior to owning it?)
• Photos of the work, including any damage
