Speak up: Bayside’s Upstanders exhibition

28 Jan 2023 – 5 Mar 2023

Speak up is a collaborative project between renowned local artist Adrian Spurr and a network of five schools across Bayside who are part of The Upstanders community. Artist, sculptor, master printer and educator Adrian Spurr led collagraph workshops with 100 grade five students to create over 400 artworks culminating in an immersive installation at Bayside Gallery.

Now in its tenth year, The Upstanders are invited to upskill their knowledge on social and emotional learning and exercise their creative talents in spreading positive messages throughout the community. This year the students explored the theme ‘Confidence to speak up’ inspiring the students to speak up, find their voice, and support one another. They were encouraged to develop important values such as kindness, integrity, respect and fairness and put them into practice.

Schools involved in the project include: Beaumaris Primary School, Brighton Beach Primary School, Hampton Primary School, Sandringham Primary School, and Sandringham East Primary School.
