Marikit Santiago: The kingdom, the power

28 Oct 2023 – 4 Feb 2024

Marikit Santiago's exhibition, The kingdom, the power, showcases her recent works in Victoria. As a Filipina-Australian artist, Santiago explores the intersections of religion, ancestry, and gender. Through monumental paintings and votive-like studies, she weaves together Western art canon and pop culture, appropriating biblical narratives to address personal history and universal themes. The title refers to a Catholic Mass phrase, reflecting on the privileges and obligations of the 'Eden' shaped by her migrant parents in Australia and the world she creates for her own children. Santiago's figurative painting blends classical and contemporary elements, incorporating diverse materials and involving her children as artistic collaborators.
