Book Talk: Art for the Country at the WAG

Saturday 8 Jun 2019, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Dr Don Edgar’s Art for the Country: The story of Victoria’s regional art galleries explores the social history of community conflict over the value and meaning of art in country towns. From the early ‘provincial’ galleries of Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Warrnambool, the book follows the journey of these galleries from colonial times to now. The author will introduce the book, followed by a discussion with local historians Janet Macdonald and Elizabeth O’Callaghan, covering the rich histories and current challenges facing our beloved regional institutions.

FREE. Bookings not required
Date: Saturday 8 June 1–2pm
Location: Warrnambool Art Gallery, 26 Liebig Street, Warrnambool
