Towards Sustainable Galleries: 2010 PGAV Conference
The Conference was held over 24 & 25 May 2010 at the beautiful TarraWarra Museum of Art, near Healesville.
Peter Batchelor MP, Minister for the Arts, launched the conference and took notes during a session where each PGAV gallery briefly outlined its key programmes and issues.
Towards Sustainable Galleries included a panel discussion with Guy Abrahams, Cr Cathy Oke, Jason Smith, Director of Heide Museum of Modern Art & Paula Greene, Heide’s Business, Finance and Sustainability Manager and artists Ash Keating and Fiona Hall. Joe Pascoe, (Director of Craft Victoria) ably moderated this session.
There were also presentations by Arts Victoria, NETS Victoria, CAST, AbaF, Museums Australia (Victoria) and Craft Victoria.
Guy Abrahams, formerly Director of Christine Abrahams Gallery has trained in the Al Gore programme. Guy was both inspiring and terrifying in his message of how the arts can contribute to the dialogue.
Dr Cathy Oke, Chair of Melbourne City Council’s Future Melbourne (Eco-City) Committee was another key speaker. She spoke of the positive actions the Council is taking to minimise its carbon footprint by 2020.
Andy Miller, Client Officer Organisations, Arts Victoria presented an outline of other peak service organisations and the functions they fulfill.
