Seminar on Strategic Approaches to Branding and Philanthropy

The Asia-Pacific Social Impact Leadership Centre and the Public Galleries Association in Victoria presented a seminar on strategic approaches to branding and philanthropy for galleries and museums.

Speakers were:
Dr Jody Evans Senior Lecturer in Marketing, Melbourne Business School
Sarah Bartak Helen Macpherson Smith Trust
Debra Morgan Myer Foundation
Anna Draffin Artsupport Australia

Dr Jody Evans began proceedings with an overview of her five year study of thirty international museums across the UK, USA and Australia and their different approaches to branding. Through a case study of the National Gallery of Victoria, Jody demonstrated how “brand” could serve as a compass for decision making within an organisation as well as a means to increase audience satisfaction and loyalty – vital given the competing demands placed on people’s leisure time.

PGAV Board member Liz Gillies led a discussion about strategic approaches to philanthropy by the msueums and gallery sector, featuring presentations by Sarah Bartak from the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust, Debra Morgan from the Myer Foundation and Anna Draffin from Artsupport Australia.
